ATBC Radio Station
Australian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation (ATBC) is a not-for-profit radio station broadcasting programs primarily in Tamil language 24 hours a day. ATBC operates its’ studios in Sydney, Melbourne and Toronto- Canada.
Tamil people have migrated to Australia from Sri Lanka, India, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa and Fiji. There are over 80,000 first and second generation Tamils living in the Sydney and Melbourne Metropolitan areas and there are more than 200,000 Tamis live Australia wide.
ATBC is a Media partner with the NSW Government and Federal Government Agencies and helps them to disseminate information to our listeners.
Community at its heart
Community broadcasting in Australia is the voice of the community. Australian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation (ATBC) was established to provide Australian Tamils with Information services, which are not adequately served by the existing mainstream media. ATBC was established as a non-profit entity with active participation from the Tamil community. ATBC enables the facilities and mechanism required for talented and energetic volunteers from the Tamil community to produce programs.
Operating Framework
ATBC developed a Code of Practice based on criteria set by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. Code of Conduct has been defined for broadcasters to ensure that public is not misled on events or news items, which are particularly sensitive to the community as defined by the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA).
ATBC is also world’s pioneer Tamil language radio formed as a not-for-profit radio station with volunteers. ATBC has achieved one of its goals of connecting the Australian Tamil Community to the world by streaming on-line and enabling talk-back programs with Global listeners. Types of Programming
More than 80 volunteers take part in the production, presentation and the operation of this radio. ATBC has established a partnership with other international radio stations to rebroadcast their programs. Some of the key contents of our programs are shared with CTR Radio, Canada.
ATBC has also obtained permission to relay weekly Tamil broadcasts from the 2000FM.
ATBC provide variety of programs to cater the needs of the Community. ATBC ensures the time is allocated in the key areas to provide information for youth, senior citizens and women and to new arrivals in Australia. While majority of the programs and music are of Tamil origin, ATBC also produce and rebroadcast programs in English.
ATBC Sponsorship and Promotion Opportunities
ATBC’s creation and its successful community based operation is a remarkable achievement for a small vibrant Tamil community with many of them have been recent arrival to Australia within the last 25 years. ATBC was a finalist of NSW Premier's Multicultural Media Awards.
ATBC has also obtained permission to relay weekly Tamil broadcasts from the Sydney Radio station 2000FM.
